Get Help
Breaking The Chain
The fact you’re reading this means you’re taking positive steps to get out of the situation you’re in. Remember: you’re not to blame for what is happening to you. It’s not your fault.
Don’t forget: the law is on your side. The police treat domestic violence seriously – don’t be afraid to pick up the phone and dial 999. They will help you contact a refuge and can even take you there. They can arrange medical assistance and put you in touch with people who can support you.
If you don’t feel ready to go to the police then you can get help through the civil courts. The county council may be able to provide you with temporary accommodation and the Citizens Advice Bureau may be able to help you.
Victim Support can help you regain control of your life. They can give you emotional and practical support – from advice on personal safety to helping you receive counselling.
If you need to get away from the abuser then social services may be able to supply you with a travel warrant. You may be able to get a crisis loan from the local Department of Social Security.
