Training

The adva partnership funds and delivers a range of domestic violence and abuse training programmes. These are primarily multi-agency courses but bespoke training programmes can be designed and delivered to meet needs.

Before booking a course it is recommended that you read the terms and conditions for the courses.

Level 1 - Foundation Course: Tackling Domestic Violence & Abuse (one day)

A one day multi-agency course for practitioners to examine the nature, scale and consequences of domestic violence and to how to take appropriate action, where possible. The course will raise awareness of the impact of domestic violence upon children and families, increase understanding of how best to offer help and support and raise standards of practice both individually and collectively.

Level 2 - Accredited Programme Course: Domestic Violence & Abuse - The Impact on Children (two days)

A two day multi-agency accredited course (OCN) for practitioners whose work engages them with children and young people. Delegates need to have attended the Level 1 course before undertaking Level 2. Delegates will need to attend two training days (9.00am-5.00pm) and commit 14 hours to complete a workbook (3½ hours per week for a four week period).

This course will incur a fee.

Preventing Murder and Serious Harm in Domestic Violence & Abuse (one day)
(formerly Tackling Domestic Violence & Abuse)

A one day multi-agency course for practitioners which has been developed to meet the increasing need for agencies to understand the level of risk to their client who may be experiencing Domestic Violence and to be able to refer them appropriately (including to the monthly Multi-Agency Risk Assessment Conference (MARAC)).

Delegates need to have attended the Level 1 course before undertaking Preventing Murder & Serious Harm training.

Tackling Perpetrators of Domestic Violence and Abuse (one day)

A one day multi-agency course for practitoners who work with families.  This course explores pattern of behaviour and belief systems of those who perpetrate domestic violence and abuse, the effects of these behaviours both on partners and on the helping agencies, and offers strategies to enable participants to challence perpetrators more effectively.

Delegates need to have attended the Level 1 course before undertaking Tackling Perpetrators of DVA.

Managers Tackling Domestic Violence & Abuse - the Links to Duty of Care (One day)

The programme will examine the nature, scale and consequences of domestic violence and abuse and how to take appropriate action within the workplace. This course is practical and user-friendly. Participants will experience an enjoyable and productive workshop involving group discussion and participative exercises.

Awareness Raising for Schools in Devon

This is a 2 hour specialist course for all staff working in and associated with schools. This course explores the affects of domestic violence and abuse on education, and offers strategies and preventions for schools. (This is an ideal taster session to influence and encourage attendance on the adva Level 1 Foundation, Tackling domestic violence and abuse course).

Awareness Raising for GP Practices in Devon

This is a 2 hour specialist course for GP's, nurses, midwives, health visitors, community psychiatric and mental health team, administrative staff including reception. This course looks at risk assessment and domestic violence and abuse and offers strategies and preventions for GP practices. (This is an ideal taster session to influence and encourage attendance on the adva Level 1 Foundation, Tackling domestic violence and abuse course).

Awareness Raising for Housing Organisations in Devon

This is a one day course for housing related staff in Districts, housing associations and other housing organisations. (This course can be offered over two half day sessions). This course raises awareness of the impact of domestic violence and abuse upon children and families and explores strategies and practices to protect those experiencing domestic violence and abuse.
