Latest:

The telephone and email helpline is intended to provide advice and support for students, staff, parents and governors of Devon schools.  The lines will be staffed by an expert teacher, Di Martin, and an Educational Psychologist, Julie Cozens.  Di, until recently, ran the SpLD (dyslexia) Support Centre at Queen Elizabeth’s Community College in Crediton. Julie is an Educational Psychologist with a particular interest in literacy.

  • Additional classroom support strategies for students with literacy difficulties
  • Available training opportunities and resources for those supporting students
  • Where to go for further advice and help

If you are a parent and need advice on:

  • Devon LA’s approach to dyslexia
  • How to support your child at home
  • Approaching class teachers and SENCOs

The telephone lines will be staffed for half a day each week during term time on Wednesday afternoons from 1.00 - 5.00 p.m. E-mail enquiries to the Dyslexia Helpline will also be picked up and answered during that time. Di and Julie will log each enquiry and the demands made in order to establish whether such a service will be useful to schools. Calls will be treated with usual confidentiality, so if a parent rings, s/he may be advised how to approach the school to solve the problem but the school would not be informed of the call.

Please ring on a Wednesday afternoon or email. Please pass this information on. We are looking forward to hearing from you.
