What can I borrow?

Books and spoken word may be borrowed for 21 days, and can be renewed.

You can borrow 8 books and 4 recorded sound items and 4 DVDs (half this entitlement the first time you borrow or if you are a visitor) - staff will be happy to explain your entitlement when you join.

Music and video items are hired on a weekly basis. Audiobooks are hired for three weeks. Pricing information can be found under Media Fees.

You can return items to any library, with the exception of items borrowed from mobile libraries which need to be returned to the mobile from which they were borrowed.

Please help us to keep your record correct by waiting to see your returned items checked in.

Here - simply follow the link and select 'Renew Online' -

If your library is not computerised please phone Your Local Library and give the author, title and the due date of the item you want to renew.

What happens if I keep items after the date due back?

Returning or renewing your books promptly will help us and save you cost and inconvenience. If you do keep your books beyond the date due for return, and do not renew them, you will have to pay a weekly charge up to a maximum of 6 weeks.pricing information is available under Fees and Charges, a printed list is also available from your library.

How can I find out what is in stock in Devon?

Use the Library Catalogue to search by author, title or keyword - most libraries have computers so you can also do this while visiting the library, or ask a member of staff if you can't find what you're looking for.

How can I reserve something?

If your local library or mobile library does not have what you want, you can reserve titles for a small fee. We will do our best to obtain the title for you and let you know when it is available. You can either do this in person at your local library or online from the Library Catalogue. For more information about reserving online, see our Frequently Asked Questions.
