Readers at 3 of Devon's libraries celebrated the National Year of Reading in style with a visit from Patrick Gale. The Cornish-based author, already popular with reading groups, saw interest in his work escalate when his latest novel, Notes from an Exhibition, was chosen for the Channel4 book club on the Richard and Judy show.
On Friday evening, June 6th, Patrick met readers at the first author event in the new library in the Watermark, Ivybridge. Members of the newly-formed Friends of Ivybridge library were on hand to help staff and the evening was a great success. Readers said "What a beautiful new library - a good environment for these talks" and "it was worth travelling across the moors to hear Patrick Gale!"
On Saturday lunchtime Patrick visited Exeter Central Library. With an audience made up of readers from the city's many reading groups joined by others who had travelled from Bristol and Wiltshire, the questions about Notes were searching and well-informed. One reader said of the event -"I was so impressed. I really enjoyed it and have recommended the book to everyone I know!" Readers were able to buy copies of the author's backlist.
On Saturday evening Bideford library hosted a sell-out event, with readers from all over North Devon seizing the opportunity to meet the author face to face.
