Book Talk

Marion Malteno Visits Devon Libraries

Cream teas at TeignmouthMarion MaltenoMarion Molteno joined readers in Totnes, Ilfracombe and Teignmouth libraries to talk about her work. Her latest book, Somewhere More Simple is set on the Isles of Scilly, with three strangers who arrive hoping, in vain, to leave behind their complex lives on the mainland. Marion's own life - as a student caught up in the anti-Apartheid movement in her native South Africa, and later as a teacher in multi-ethnic communities and as adviser for Save the Children - furnished her with the inspiration for her other books: A Language in Common, If you can Walk, you can Dance (winner of a Commonwealth Writers Award) and a Shield of Coolest Air.
