A flourishing market town from the 12th Century onwards, Torrington lists Cardinal Wolsey and hte painter, Joshua Reynolds, amongst its more prominent residents from days gone by.
But the town's most notable event was during the Civil War when some 200 Royalist prisoners, held in the parish church, were blown up!
