Description: As part of the Fun Palaces weekend at Exete Library, composer Simon Belshaw is putting on a performance of Music Machine 1. We are looking for people who would like to be involved. Title: Music Machines - Workshop
Date:Saturday 8 October
Time: 10:00-13:00
Description: Music Machine 40 is part of composer Simon Belshaw’s ongoing Music Machine project and is a large scale installation that uses eight Raspberry Pi computers with sensors to generate music. The morning session will be an opportunity for eight people to help build and develop the installation. This will include a simple circuit and 3D printing. No musical, coding or electronic knowledge are required. For more information email hello@2timesdo.co.uk or exeter.library@devon.gov.uk
Audience:The workshop is suitable for all ages although children under 16 must be accompanied by an adult.

The Rougemont Room will be open to all visitors who will be able to interact with the machine made earlier in the day and create their own unique piece of music. Title: Language Café

Description: Come along to Exeter Library’s Language Café and meet with others wanting to use their French, German, Spanish and Italian conversation skills. We are inviting anyone with skills in other languages to come along and see what goes on... there may be others keen to chat with you. A little philosophy about our Language Café meet up… They are not lessons so some (even if basic) knowledge of the languages is required to participate. You don’t have to come to the whole session, feel free to come and go as you wish. Title:Exetreme Imagination - The Devon Collection of Children's Books
Date:From 17 October to December 2016
Time: Open during library hours
Description: During Exetreme Imagination, Exeter Library will be showcasing some of the rare and beautiful children's books from the Special Collections. The Devon Collection of Children's Books contains about 2,000 items, mainly dating from before 1940. The books are kept behind the scenes in a specially designed secure room to preserve these rare and unique items for future generations.

Description: A sensory experience exploring colour, movement, texture and sound. 'ExploraTale' will transform your experience of the library by taking you on an imaginative journey through books. Popular stories will be animated using everyday materials to transform the spaces of the library into scenes inspired by journeys in books. Through visual art, movement, music and making, children and their parents will enter into the world of the story in an imaginative and creative way.

Title:Exetreme Imagination - Nicolette Jones In Conversation With Meg Roscoff

Description: Award-winning author of young adult fiction, Mal Peet was the curator of the 2014 exetreme imagination festival. When he died last year, he left his book Beck unfinished. Meg Rosoff, fellow author and friend of Mal, completed the book, a coming-of-age adventure of a mixed race boy transported to North America. Meg Rosoff will be talking to author Nicolette Jones about this experience.

Description: Ever thought “I don’t know what to draw!” or felt daunted by the beautiful blank sheet of paper in front of you? Don’t worry, Moose has devised a simple way to generate ideas in a few simple steps without having to think about it. This hour-long workshop will introduce you to Moose, take you through this simple process which we uses in his own work, and give you a chance to have a go yourself. Materials provided.

Description: A Haiku is a form of Japanese poem that consists of 3 lines and 17 syllables, like this: "Haiku Hub is here, Come create some poetry, Any age can join!" Drop into our poetry corner for families where you can collect memories or objects from the local environment and write Haikus inspired by this environment. You can record your Haikus either inside or outside, and they will be shared on our website so your poetry will become famous.
