North Devon Local Studies Centre
The North Devon Local Studies Centre is situated on the second floor of the North Devon Library and Record Office building in Barnstaple.
We provide a “one stop shop” for local and family history researchers, combining the North Devon related Local Studies resources and archives of Devon Libraries and Devon Archives and Local Studies Service with those of the North Devon Athenaeum, a private charitable trust.
More detailed information about the resources held and services offered by each department, together with links to their catalogues, can be found online at their individual homepages as below.
All items are held on site and can be ordered for viewing on the day or in advance.
Document orders are processed on the half hour starting at 9.45am until 11.45am and then again from 2pm until 4.30pm.
The Centre remains open during the lunchtime period for consultation of documents ordered during the morning and of other resources and material.
Talks on the resources of the Centre can be given to interested groups. who are welcome to contact us to arrange a visit.
We are also keen to support educational work however we ask that teachers contact the Centre before setting assignments or sending students in so that we can be sure that suitable material is available.
Visits by groups of students are welcome but we ask that these are arranged in advance so that we can organise accommodation and prepare relevant materials.
