Okehampton Children's Book Club
Venue: Okehampton Library
Description: Do you like reading books, talking about books, making things to do with books, finding out about authors and their books, making books? The Club is open to all 8-12 year olds who are fluent, independent readers. So come and join in the fun.
We meet: Once a month on Mondays (we started on 15th September 2008).

What have we done so far...
We discussed The Spiderwick Chronicles: The Field Guide by Terry DiTerlizzi and Holly Black. Most of the avid book worms liked it because it was exciting and funny. But one person did not like it very much. We thought about the creatures that might live behind the bookshelves in our library and come out at night, then drew them and annotated our pictures with what they might do at night. We are going to make them into a field guide for our library.
We had: Boogey Book who dances on books and knocks them off; the Building Breaker who smashes through the library walls and breaks all the books; a Book Scrumplertaker who takes pages out of books and just leaves the covers; the Character Cruncher who has long fingers with which to climb the shelves and then crunches the characters from the books and eats them; a Multi-coloured Bogey Drop who spits out coloured bogeys onto all the books then jumbles up all the words; a Book Maggot who eats the words and spits them out (he doesn’t like their taste), but the letters are all jumbled up; Mess-about Mandy who pulls the books off the shelves and another Bogey Book (but a bigger version!), who is naughty in a talking book box.
