Home Library Service

Home Library ServiceDevon Libraries Home Library Service - A partnership between Devon Libraries and the Royal Voluntary Service.

The Home Library Service delivers library books and audio books to people who through ill health, injury or disability cannot visit a library, or who are too frail to carry heavy books. There is no charge for this service.

Specially trained and security checked Royal Voluntary Service volunteers discuss with the client the sort of books they would like to read. There is a wide range of fiction to choose from – romance, thrillers, adventure; and information books on many popular subjects. Particular authors and titles can be requested free of charge.

Large print books and audio books are available for people with a visual impairment.

The volunteer will choose books from a local library and arrange to deliver the books to the client’s home every few weeks at a mutually convenient time.

The volunteers always wear RVS identity cards when visiting.

For those people who love reading or just browsing through books, but are often confined to their home, this free service offers a chance to have access to the library service as well as a visit from a friendly face on a regular basis.

If you would like to join this much valued and immensely rewarding service as a volunteer, or if you would like to receive the service, please contact the RVS Service Manager, Jackie Cleaver, for further details.
