Vonnegut - Slaughterhouse 5

Slaughterhouse 5 by Kurt Vonnegut

Slaughterhouse 5 by Kurt Vonnegut

Published  in 1969 novel by best-selling author Kurt Vonnegut, this was one of his most popular works and widely regarded as a classic. It combines science fiction elements with an analysis of the human condition from an uncommon perspective, using time travel as a plot device and the bombing of Dresden in World War II, as a starting point.

Vonnegut himself witnssed the aftermath of the bombing as a prisoner of war. Vonnegut said that he always intended to write about the experience but found himself incapable of doing so for more than twenty years. Appearing when it did, Slaughterhouse-Five made a forceful statement about the campaign in Vietnam, a war in which incendiary technology was once more being employed against non-military targets in the name of what many saw as a dubious cause.
