The Harmony Silk Factory by Tash Aw

The Harmony Silk Factory by Tash Aw

A graduate of the same UEA Creative writing course which also produced Naomi Alderman and Diana Evans, Aw is Malaysian-born, now living in London.

This is his first novel, and it tells the story of the narrator’s search for the truth about his father - “The True Story of the Infamous Chinaman Called Johnny”. Written in three parts with three very different voices, the story is set in 1940s Malaya.  Each story-teller gives us a tantalising glimpse of the exotic land, people and period. The book was Category Winner of the Whitbread First Novel Award 2005 and shortlisted for the Man Booker Prize.
