Torbay
Torre Abbey
For four centuries Torre Abbey was a great and prosperous monestary. Then it was converted to a fine private residence and was occupied by the same family for generations.
Today you can glimpse the past - from the earliest days of monastic life - right up to the time when the last private owners moved out of their treasured home.
Full of beautiful interiors
Picture galleries, furnished rooms, hallways and staircases. Family chapel, sculpture room and ancient gatehouse.
A veritable treasure trove!
Among the many exhibits there is an Agatha Christie display, with personal possessions, paintings, books and original manuscripts of the world-famous crime writer.
There is also an authentically created Victorian bedroom and the Undercrofts - ancient rooms beneath the house, unchanged since the monks went about their business.
