Devon tithe apportionments now available online

Digitized images of most [but not all] of the tithe apportionments for Devon are now accessible online.

Tithe apportionment transcriptions are also being added over time.  As at May 2013 only 6% of the total number of transcriptions are online.

They are on a Devon County Council webpage titled Tithe Maps and Apportionments which is under development as part of the Tithe Maps Online project.

Please be aware that this webpage is still “a work in progress”.

The tithe apportionment images are in the form of downloadable .pdf files, prepared from the digital copies of the tithe apportionments supplied to Devon Record Office by the National Archives for the Tithe Maps Online project.

The digitised images may be used only for purposes of research, private study or education. Applications for any other use should be made to The National Archives Image Library, Kew.

The tithe apportionment transcriptions have been completed by a team of willing volunteers as part of the Tithe Apportionment Transcription Project.

NOT ALL OF THE TITHE APPORTIONMENT IMAGES ARE INCLUDED YET

Please note also that in a few cases, there are missing pages – pages of the original tithe apportionment which were omitted during scanning at the National Archives.   Where identified, these missing pages will eventually be scanned and included.

To open a tithe apportionment, select the parish name from the dropdown menu, click on the Submit button, and when the pdf file links appear below this, click on the two links to the parish name in turn, to open the .pdf files of the images and the transcription.
