Talks and Visits
Introduction
Our staff are available to give talks on various archive-related subjects, both on-site or outside the Record Office, in and out of office hours. We also provide introductory tours of the Record Office if requested.
Charges
- Introductory tour of the Record Office £10
- On-site talk £10
- Talk outside the Record Office £25
A tour of the Record Office can be combined with a separate talk at no extra charge.
Duration of talks
Talks and tours usually last between 30 minutes and 1 hour. A combined talk and tour may take up to 1 hour 30 minutes. Times, however, are negotiable.
Size of groups
There is no limit to the size of group we can present a talk to outside the Record Office, though 40 or 50 might be an optimum size. In the Record Office itself, we can seat around 60 people maximum. For tours, a group of 10 or 12 is ideal.
Booking
Though we have no rules on booking time, at least 3 months’ advance notice would be useful to enable us to prepare adequately, to book our functions room, etc.. Most groups, in practice, give around 6 months’ notice.
Equipment, etc.
We will provide our own slides, acetates, visual aids, projectors, etc. when on-site. When travelling outside the Record Office, however, we may ask whoever is hosting the talk, where possible, to provide heavy equipment such as projectors, though we can be flexible in our presentation where such equipment is not available.
