Wrap up warm – If you are cold wear a hat, even indoors, as a large percentage of your body heat can be lost through your head. Wear lots of layers of clothing. Multiple layers are better at keeping you insulated than one or two thick layers. If you are aged over 65 make sure you get a free flu jab. Last year a third of pensioners did not have their jab, despite being at high risk of contracting the virus. As you get older your immune system becomes less effective, which means that your ability to fight off infections and viruses is reduced. This also means that it will take longer to recover from illnesses and that relatively common conditions can develop into more serious problems. |
