Registration Offices in Devon
Ceremony Venues approved by Devon County Council
Devon County Council is not responsible for the administrative areas of Plymouth or Torbay. Details of approved venues located within those areas may be obtained from their respective register offices.
How properties are approved for civil ceremonies
Advice to applicants and an application form may be obtained from Devon Registration Service for applications for a room or rooms in a building to be approved under the Marriage Act 1994 and Civil Partnership Act 2004 for the conduct of civil ceremonies. The range of celebratory ceremonies which the Devon Registration Service provides are also conducted at approved venues. A fee, which covers a three year licence, is detailed in the application pack.
Properties must be considered suitable for the conduct of civil ceremonies and should have no religious connection - wedding ceremonies, ceremonies accompanying civil partnership registration and celebratory ceremonies must be secular in nature. The rooms or areas being considered must be within a permanent structure. The property is inspected by representatives of the Registration Service. Provided there are no objections following a period of public consultation a licence for three years is issued.
Advice and application forms may be obtained from the Registration Service Manager at Devon Register Office, Castle Street, Exeter EX4 3PQ, by telephoning 01392 383450 or e-mailing: register@devon.gov.uk.
