When is the Coroner involved?

Coroner Information

The position of Coroner is mandatory and is a Crown appointment. The County Solicitor, manages this function as Proper Officer.

The Coroner investigates all unexpected, accidental and/or suspicious deaths. She is assisted in this by officers provided by the Devon and Cornwall Police (see Police) and local pathologists (see Health). Part of her work includes the conduct of Inquests into the death(s) and these are attended by interested parties and sometimes expert witnesses.
