Why is a Regeneration Framework needed?
- Significant new development is expected over the next 20 years including new housing at East-the-Water and the redevelopment at Bideford College will help provide skills for 21st century jobs
- Development at Caddsdown and Alverdiscott will provide employment opportunities
- Increased investment in the town centre will provide jobs in offices, shops and tourism
The Framework will provide guidance for new development. It will bring forward town centre sites for development in a planned and co-ordinated way. Finally the Framework should help build on the town’s legacy while allowing change and improvement for the future.
How was the study undertaken?
First, studies were done of the town’s character, people and traffic. The analysis included two public Open Days that were very well attended and resulted in hundreds of comments that were analysed and fed into the final Framework document.
What are the next steps?
The Bideford Regeneration Initiative (BRI) are currently collecting feedback on these proposals set out in the Regeneration Framework.
