Doing Business with us - Procurement

Devon County Council spends approximately £450 million each year on a varied range of goods, services and works that we need to deliver our services to the people of Devon.

Organisations which deliver services for the Council are required to meet these same level of standards in equality and operate them without exception.

Our objectives are to ensure:

  • All contracts are procured and delivered in a way that is non-discriminatory and promotes equality of opportunity for staff, the general public and the business community.

  • The goods, works and services provided by contractors and suppliers are non-discriminatory and cater equally for all users’ needs.

  • That the recipient of the goods, or the client in respect of services and works, enjoys equal access to, and is equally satisfied with, performance and quality irrespective of any other factor.

  • That the procurement process incorporates the consideration of equality standards at all stages.

  • That Devon County Council’s appointed contractors share and help deliver our equal opportunities goals.

  • That existing contracts and contractors are monitored to ensure compliance with equality standards.

  • That all procurement practitioners incorporate equality into their processes.

  • That Devon County Council’s suppliers and the organisations which tender to work with us operate a policy of continuous improvement with respect to all elements of equality.
