Devon County Council Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual & Transgender Staff Network

Past, Present and Future of the Staff Network

Following a 2003 report and initial consultation in Summer 2004 the dcclgbt staff network was set up in Spring 2005 as part of Devon County Council’s commitment to reducing inequalities and valuing people.

Since then we have developed an email network, had regular meetings, held social events, attended National Conferences on behalf of DCC, networked with other LGBT networks and organisations and been involved with DCC consultation exercises.

We aim to continue to publicise the network, gain more members and associate members and develop our consultative role within DCC. We have recently merged with the NHS Devon LGBT staff network and are currently exploring partnerships with other local organisations to pursue a larger, common network group.

The dcclgbt staff network is governed by terms of reference image - PDF icon (38KB - pdf help) agreed at the creation of the network, and periodically updated.

Network Meetings

The dcclgbt staff network holds four network meetings a year for discussing official progress. These begin in midsummer with the Annual General Meeting. A list of planned meetings is kept below for the benefit of staff. Specific dates, times and locations of meetings will be decided a few weeks before they take place, and communicated over the staff network mailing list. If you would like to join the mailing list, please contact us.

  • Most recent meeting: 26/7/2011 Annual General Meeting in Exeter. We have minutes of this meeting.
  • Next meeting: Autumn meeting, October 2011.
  • Future meeting: Winter meeting, January 2012.
  • Future meeting: Spring meeting, April 2012.
  • Next Annual General Meeting: July 2012.

Consulting the Network

We are able to contribute to equality impact and needs assessments (where relevant to sexual orientation and Transgender issues). A key role of the network is to promote good practice on LGBT issues within the council and our affiliated partner organisations, including NHS Devon. If you need to consult the network on new or existing service delivery, policies or projects please contact us directly or via the Corporate Equality Officer.

Contact the Network

If you would like to consult the network, join the network, attend our social events or find out more about the network itself, please get in touch. Your call or email will be collected and responded to by an LGBT staff network member and treated in confidence. The mailing list, group e-mail address, phone number and this web page are hosted on systems outside of the DCC staff network in order to improve members' privacy.

LGBT Staff Experience Report.
As part of DCC’s commitment to Justice Through Equality, a series of confidential focus groups were run between September and November 2003 to explore LGBT employees experiences of:

  • Living in Devon.
  • Receiving services from the Council.
  • Working for us.

This project was successfully completed, and a full public report produced. The dcclgbt network was started as a result of this project. The documents that comprise the report are the Main Report image - PDF icon (135KB - pdf help) and Appendicies image - PDF icon (226KB - pdf help).
