Final proposal for Devon reorganisation delayed

The Government have asked the Boundary Committee to delay the announcement of its final recommendation for local government reorganisation in Devon. The announcement which was expected on 13 February will now be made on 15 July.

The delay almost certainly means that the implementation of any eventual unitary recommendation will not be possible until April 2011. It also means that County Council elections in June this year will continue as planned.

The County Council has described the continued uncertainty this creates as "unhelpful" and says that a speedy resolution is needed.
