Library Computers

Computer Wiz Kid

Computers are great fun and very helpful for finding out information about your hobby or for school projects.

There's a lot of neat stuff on the Internet, but you need to be careful about how you use it. Remember, using the web safely and sensibly is up to you.

If you see anything that worries or upsets you on the Internet, tell the librarian straight away.

You will only be able to use email or chatrooms on a library computer if you are surfing the net with an adult. Here are some tips to help you:

  • Don’t give out information about yourself, like your address or telephone number or picture or even your school.
  • Don't open emails from people you don’t know, and don't reply to messages that make you feel uncomfortable - tell your parents.
  • Don’t give your password to anyone - not even your best friend.
  • Never agree to get together with someone you meet online.

If you want to save your work, you will need to use a floppy disk. If you don't have a disk, you can buy one at the library counter.

You will have to pay for any printouts you do. Colour ones are much more expensive than black and white!

Anybody can put things on the Internet, and many people just put what they think - they aren't always right!

Sometimes you might need to work at a computer with a friend. If you do, please be quiet so as not to disturb other people. We don’t allow groups of people to play games together on library computers.
