Preparing for Adult Life
Trainers: Devon Care Leavers Service
All carers of children aged 13 and over are required to attend one of these training courses.
Learning outcomes: This course is for carers and leaving care workers developed from the work undertaken by the Rainer Foundation “What Makes the Difference Project”. By the end of the session participants will be able to:
- identify the key skills and approaches for working effectively with children in care and care leavers.
- demonstrate an understanding of the legal, assessment and planning framework where support for children in care and care leavers is provided
- gain an improved understanding of the particular factors that impact on children in care and care leavers
- demonstrate an awareness and understanding of transition issues and of how to support young people during the transition to adulthood
- develop an understanding of the support needs of children in care and care leavers in education, training and employment and identify ways of addressing these
- develop an understanding of the roles and responsibilities of all those who work directly with children in care and care leavers and the importance of partnership working
- identify ways of equipping young people with the range of skills they need for adult life.
This is a two day course
