Level Three qualifications
Ever thought of taking a Level 3 Qualification?
The Children’s Workforce Development Council has developed a new qualification, which will be replacing the NVQs you may be familiar with.
The new Level 3 qualification is called a diploma to indicate its size. The national vocational qualifications (NVQs) brand and type will not be present in the Qualifications and CreditFramework (QCF) as we are adhering to the new qualification titles defined by the Qualifications and Curriculum Development Agency (QCDA).
It is our aim that the qualification replaces NVQs and will in the future replace vocationally related qualifications (VRQ).
Credits
The full and relevant Level 3 Diploma will be 65 credits in size and is made up of brand new QCF units, some of which are being used in qualifications offered by other Sector Skills Councils (SSC), for example the Training and Development Agency for Schools (TDA).
Credits are a combination of Guided Learning Hours (GLH), private study and assessment. The split of this may be different depending on the content of scope of the unit but through negotiation and discussion with the Awarding Organisation working group, indicative splits have been made and will be published very shortly in line with their submission onto the QCF.
Pathways
Within the Level 3 Diploma for the Children and Young People’s Workforce there are three pathways that represent our footprint responsibilities.
- Learning Development and Support Services pathway – suitable for example for Connexions staff and Learning Mentors
- Early Years pathway – suitable for example for day care settings practitioners
- Children’s Social Care pathway – suitable for example for practitioners in residential care.
CDWC are aware that there is no regulation for Level 3 for all these occupations; however what we are saying is the learning is appropriate for these practitioners who want to undertake a full level 3. We are also saying we support the aspiration for a workforce which is minimum level 3, graduate led.
The new Diploma came into being in Sept 2010.
