Vacancy Form for Providers

Recruiting the right people with the right skills and experience, at the right time, is essential for your business. We support you in doing this by promoting your vacancies free of charge in a number of ways:

  • Online at www.devonjobs.gov.uk

You can submit your vacancies to us online, by following the guidance given below. Once submitted to us, the vacancies are advertised on the Devon jobs website. This website attracts thousands of jobseekers each month and is a great place to make sure your vacancy is seen by the right people. Callers are also able to register to receive email job alerts as soon as a vacancy is advertised which matches their search criteria.
  • Online at www.jobseekers.direct.gov.uk

As part of our free service, we automatically share your vacancies with Jobcentre Plus. Their user-friendly website and national network of offices greatly increases the visibility of your vacancies, making it more likely that suitable people will apply. In addition, Jobcentre Plus information and services can also be accessed from children’s centres, where local parents and carers may be seeking work.
  • In print in Devon County Council’s weekly Choice Bulletin.

In addition to online promotion, we pay for your vacancies to be included in one week’s edition of Devon County Council’s Choice Bulletin. This publication is sent out on a weekly basis to all Devon’s libraries, Jobcentre Plus offices, schools, Connexions, and individual subscribers. It is also available to view online at www.devonjobs.gov.uk.

What sort of jobs can be advertised?

We recognise that it can be difficult to find the right level of skills, experience and qualification to fill a particular post; this is why we offer a fully funded advertising service for your childcare job vacancies. As such, we only handle job vacancies which involve direct contact with children, and not the kinds of generic roles which might be easier to fill - that means we will handle your vacancy for a pre-school leader, but not for a cleaner. If you are not sure if your vacancy is suitable contact us for advice.

How do I submit a vacancy?

It’s really simple to submit a vacancy. All you need to do is to download the Vacancy Form for Providers. Once you have completed the form and provided all the necessary information, return it to natalie.elston@devon.gov.uk

Vacancies are published online within a couple of days, and usually feature in the next edition of the Choice Bulletin, depending on when it was submitted (i.e.; you will need to send your completed form to us by the Monday to feature in the following Monday’s Choice bulletin- please try to submit your form to us earlier if you can to ensure it is processed on time). Call the Recruitment Administrator on 01392 385398 if you have any queries, if you are having any problems completing the form or would like clarification about the deadlines.

What should I include in the advert?

The Vacancy Form for Providers will tell you what you need to include. We also encourage you to attach the relevant job descriptions and person specifications when you submit the vacancy form by email, as we can uploaded them to the childcare jobs website for jobseekers to get a more detailed understanding of what you are looking for. This can save you valuable time and energy in the long run, as it may improve the quality of applications for the role. For help with what to include in a job description and person specification, or more information on how to manage a safer recruitment process, read the Staffing Matters document at www.devon.gov.uk/eycs-recruitment

Please remember, we are unable to advertise your position without some indication of salary.

Make sure you know the current National Minimum Wage rates.

What happens next?

The vacancy will be advertised until it reaches the closing date you have set for it, though it is always helpful to be notified when your vacancy has been filled. Please contact us if you need to continue to advertise the vacancy beyond the closing date if responses have been low. If you are having problems recruiting we will be happy to offer further advice.
