Black and Ethnic Minorities and domestic violence

BME Training

The BME Action Group were delighted to secure a grant in 2009-10 of £4600 from the Home Office to develop a training workshop that will help domestic violence and abuse practitioners in Devon to support victims from BME backgrounds. The first stage, which has already started, involves four women from local BME communities working together with an educational consultant to put together two half-day workshops.

The workshops will include information on: local BME populations and community groups; cultural awareness; language and communication; forced marriage, genital mutilation, human trafficking; NRPF – how to support victims without recourse to public funds.

The workshops will be ready for delivery by January 2010 and, nearer the time, we will be sending out invitations to book places on one of the workshops.
