IDVAs (Independent domestic violence advisors)
IDVAs are employed by specialist domestic violence and abuse voluntary sector organisations in Devon to work with all those experiencing domestic violence or abuse who have been identified as being at risk of experiencing further abuse by an agency such as Social Services, The Police or Housing Department. The IDVA workers work proactively with the service users to devise and implement safety plans and offer support through the criminal justice system including advocating on their behalf. Referrals to the IDVA service are made via the MARAC (Multi Agency Risk Assessment Conference) Co-ordinator once a victim has been assessed as high risk.
