Devon in Europe

Membership of European regional organisations gives the County Council a voice and influence in Europe and provides an opportunity to form the interregional partnerships needed for drawing down funding for projects.

Devon belongs to the following organisations:

assembly of european regions

Assembly of European Regions

The Assembly of European Regions (AER) organises and develops dialogue, collaboration and joint initiatives between the European regions.  The AER was formed in 1985 and Devon County Council has been a member since then.  By participating in the AER, the County Council is involved in the European decision-making process, particularly through it's high profile on the four AER committees

conference of peripheral maritime regions

Conference of Peripheral Maritime Regions

The CPMR has a membership of over 100 regions spanning Europe's coasts from Norway to Portugal, Italy and Greece and including islands as diverse as Crete, Orkney and the French territories in the Caribbean.  Along with a number of other UK coastal regions, Devon is a member of the CPMR.

atlantic arc commission

Atlantic Arc Commission

The Atlantic Arc Commission is a sub-division of the CPMR and brings together some 30 regions along Europe's Atlantic coast. From the Algarve in Portugal to the Highland region of Scotland, it includes members from the UK, Ireland, France, Spain and Portugal.  The aim of the Atlantic Arc is to reduce the effects of the peripheral nature of its member regions and to work together to promote their common strengths.
