Evidence Based Practice in Road Casualty Reduction

Blended Learning Course

Lastest news:

A new course is now available in 2009 and it will be presented in a new format, reflecting the requests from delegates who have attended earlier courses.

Feedback suggested that a 4 day residential format was too difficult for some to achieve so efforts have been made to create a 'blended learning' structure that combines on-line, self-directed learning and discussion with a reduced formal training element.  This format comes with an assessment that will help delegates understand how much they have learned and understood of the course.  The assessment will be voluntary!

We are also introducing a follow up seminar around 6 months after the course ends so that delegates can share real-world experience of evidence led working with others.  This seminar is again voluntary but should prove invaluable in helping delegates get a real sense of the place evidence-led working has in real-world casualty reduction work.

The new course structure

Stage 1:  On-line taster session that includes some essential pre-reading for the full course.

This element is available for anyone enquiring about the course and is free-of-charge.  Go to http://tinyurl.com/devonebp  and sign in as a guest for the module called ‘Finding the Evidence’.  As a guest you'll be able to access some, though not all, of the material to help get a feel for the course principles.

Stage 2:  This is when full on-line learning begins for registrants on the full course.

On-line modules include those released in Stage 1 so as not to disadvantage latecomers.  These modules will also remain available until the end of the 4th phase.

On-line support may be offered during this period by use of the course forum.

Delegates are also encouraged to share and make contact in the forum before the 3rd stage begins.

Stage 3:  A two day residential course based in Exeter, Devon.

Stage 4:  Within 2 weeks of Stage 3 being complete an online assessment will become available for those who wish to take it.  This will help course delegates gauge how much they have learned and understood.

The course effectively ends two weeks later and the on-line assessment closes and course attendance / CPD certificates are issued.

Stage 5:  This is an optional 1 day seminar, again in Exeter, to give delegates an opportunity to meet up after a few months to discuss how they have used EBP in their workplace, and what challenges and benefits it has presented.

Dates and costs

Cost:  The cost of the full course is £275.

This will include on-line learning; 2 days of facilitated learning; assessment costs; issue of CPD certificates; a further 1 day seminar in 2010 (optional); refreshments and lunches during the 3 days spent in Exeter.

Accommodation and transport are not included.

Dates for the 2009 course:

This year the residential element of the course will be run on 09/10 September 2009.

The Stage 1 introduction to the course is available now at http://tinyurl.com/devonebp

If you would like to upgrade to the full course you can register your interest with the Devon Road Safety Help Desk at rshelp@devon.gov.uk.  Materials for Stage 2 will be available for full-course delegates from August.
