Admission Arrangements

Devon County Council Determined admission arrangements for 2010/11

The arrangements have been determined or set by the Local Authority or by the Governing Body of those schools which are their own admissions authority. If you are unhappy with the arrangements which are proposed you can formally object to them.

You will find a series of acronyms and terms with which you may not be familiar. They are explained on the glossary of terms page. Wherever there is a link to further information, that link will be highlighted. If you are unsure of any terms or have a question about any aspect of these arrangements, please contact the Policy and Strategy Officer.

Devon County Council is the admission authority for all Voluntary Controlled (VC) and Community schools.

Voluntary Aided (VA), Foundation and Trust Schools are their own admission authorities. You can see what these schools have determined by clicking on the links for VA Primary, Infant and Junior Schools or VA , Foundation and Trust Secondary Schools and then the school name.

The co-ordinated admission schemes will apply to all schools, including VA, Foundation and Trust Schools as well as VC and Community schools and will be in effect for admissions during the 2010/11 academic year.

The designated areas for schools in Devon can be viewed at School designated area maps.

The current School Admissions Code of Practice came into force in February 2009. The Education and Inspections Act 2006 requires that admission authorities act in accordance with this Code rather than have regard to it (which was the position under the previous Code). You should be aware that it would be necessary to change any part of the admission arrangements which did not comply with the Code.

If you would like this in a different format such as large print, Braille or tape, or in a different language, please contact the Council’s Information Centre on 01392 380101 or email: info@devon.gov.uk.

Co-ordinated admissions schemes (primary & secondary)

For admissions in 2010/11, all Local Authorities are required to have co-ordinated schemes for admission to schools and colleges at primary and secondary level. The purpose of the schemes is to put in place arrangements to ensure, as far as is reasonably practicable, that every parent of a child living in the Local Authority (LA) area who has applied for a school place in the ‘normal admissions round’ receives an offer of one, and only one, school place on the same day.
