National Libraries Day is a day of celebrating libraries and highlighting their place at the heart of local communities taking place across the UK. Devon Libraries aim to help people of all ages with their reading, learning and information interests and National Libraries Day is a great opportunity to visit your local library, claim your free membership and join in with what is happening to celebrate Devon’s libraries on February 4th. Anyone visiting their local library and becoming a member on Saturday 4th February will be entered into a prize draw to win a library goody bag.

Events taking place in Devon libraries include:

Love Devon Libraries - stickersVisit the library in Cullompton’s Hayridge Centre on National Libraries Day, let them know how much you love your library and receive a voucher for a free tea or coffee in the Centre cafe. Alternatively, you can check in via Foursquare, leave a 'tip' and claim your voucher. Please note this is a limited offer on a first come, first served basis - so be quick!

Teatime tales at Axminster Library – have a cup of tea and a piece of cake while listening to readings of suitably teatime nature. Tea With Mussolini and Teatime for the Traditionally Built may well make an appearance!

Ilfracombe Library are hosting a children’s craft event throughout the morning.  Drop in to create a bookmark based on your favourite books.

Take part in Barnstaple Library’s Literary Quiz. Call into the library to collect your quiz sheet with a chance to win book token prizes. The library will also be holding a sale of children’s books.

Join in a Storytelling Hour at Totnes Library on Saturday 4th February 11:00 – 12:00. Bring a favourite story or poem to read or just come and listen.

Queen Elizabeth's School Library and Crediton Library are joining forces on National Libraries Day to celebrate libraries and the pleasure of reading. Students from the school will be hosting a story time for younger children between 11:00 and 11:30, while 11 – 14 year olds can take part in a taster book group session with craft and game activities based on favourite reads.

Crediton Library is also offering free hot drinks for all visitors on National Libraries Day who can say why they love reading and their local library.

Join the staff at Honiton Library for coffee and cupcakes between 10 and 12 am on Saturday 4th February to celebrate the reopening of the library following improvement.

Ivybridge Library launches Ivybridge Reads Week on the 4th February. Events in the library include a reminiscence workshop for the over 60s, a Teddy Bear’s Picnic and Rhyme Time, a visit by author Julian Stockwin , an illustrated talk by the Jane Austen Society and a Murder Mystery evening.

This week long celebration includes visits to schools, nursing homes, playgroups and an event held in the local pub.

In the week leading up to February 4th, all of Devon’s libraries are taking part in a sticker campaign to promote their place at the heart of local communities.
