The Grand Western Canal Country Park and Local Nature Reserve meanders through beautiful mid-Devon countryside and quiet villages between Tiverton and Lowdwells (near the Somerset border). Extending for eleven and a quarter miles, the Country Park provides a wonderful location to enjoy a peaceful walk or cycle ride along the towpath; experience a ride onboard the much-loved horse-drawn barge that has been taking passengers for trips along the canal since 1974; have a go at fishing; launch a boat or hire a canoe.

What's new?

NEW - 'Friends of the Grand Western Canal' group!!!!

Join the new 'Friends of the Grand Western Canal' group at their launch party on Sunday 15th April between 12noon - 4pm. Come along for a cuppa near the Ducks Ditty and find out more about how you can help the group to promote awareness and enjoyment of the Grand Western Canal.

Also find out more about their Volunteer Wardens scheme in which you could be the eyes and ears for the Canal Ranger Service.

Jubilee date for your diary

The Canal Rangers are pleased to announce that they will be holding a 'Towpath Party' (their version of a street party) in the Canal Basin in Tiverton on Monday 4th June 2012 to celebrate the Queen's Diamond Jubilee.

The event will take place in the afternoon and children's entertainers, a jazz band and a hog roast have already been booked. The horsedrawn barge will be running and with further activities and entertainments to be added, it is sure to be a great way for local people to celebrate this special event.
