Energy use and businesses

There is a wide range of information on the internet to help businesses cut their energy use, which cuts costs, boosts profit and provides funds for reinvestment within the business.  For example:

(i) The Carbon Trust – tel. 0800 085 2005 - offers a range of services to help small, medium and large businesses, including:

(ii) Envirowise - free government-supported environmental consultation, advice and documentation fior UK businesses, including Green Street, a virtual tour designed to help your business become more resource efficient.  The Street includes an office, restaurant, pub, factory and an hotel.

(iii) NetRegs - free environmental guidance from the Environment Agency (in England) for small and medium-sized enterprises, including:

(iv) Global Action Plan - An environmental charity that works with businesses, esp. specialising in employee engagement programmes.

(v) Business Link –  organisation funded by regional development agency with support from central and local government to offer free business advice and support.  The site includes useful online guides including

(vi) Energy Saving Trust – provides advice and support on reducing the energy impacts and CO2 emissions from business transport.  

(vii) BS EN 16001 – British Standard in Energy Management.

(viii) Preparing for Climate Change – a toolkit to help tourism businesses to climate-proof their operations.  Prepared by SW Tourism, SW Climate Change Impacts Programme, Climate South East and Tourism SE.

(ix) The Carbon Reduction Commitment (CRC) Energy Efficiency Scheme - affects larger energy users

(x) Travel Plans – Devon County Council can offer advice and support for organisations wishing to develop effective, cost-efficient, attractive travel solutions to benefit your staff, visitors and customers.
