    5. BUS SERVICE

21 people state that the bus service is their main means of transport.

Recommendation: That the Parish Council note these results and pass information to relevant bodies.

  2. VILLAGE NEWSLETTER
  3. 70% of those responding (185 people) think that the ‘Village Voice’ should be reinstated – 7 people think that it should not. These figures were anticipated by a small group in the village and the monthly news-sheet recommenced in January 1999.

  4. USE OF VOLUNTEERS

A number of people volunteered to help (many anonymously).

  • 18 people would assist weekly with a ‘Good Neighbourhood Scheme’, 17 monthly and 138 occasionally.

  • One or more persons offered to help across a wide range of sporting and hobby activities (19 different activities).

  • 17 people would be willing to assist with a voluntary car scheme.

  • 54 people would assist with footpaths.

  • 107 people prepared to help with ‘Clean up Yeoford’ day.

‘I would like to help start up a recycling scheme with kerbside collection’

Recommendation: That the Village Voice be the vehicle for organisations and individuals to ‘marry’ the volunteers to the activities.

  1. GENERAL COMMENTS
  2. As well as comments on specific questions, many respondents added other items of interest. Listed below are some of those which reflect other ideas and issues that may also influence future development in the Yeoford area.

‘From October to April the air quality in Yeoford is disgraceful’

‘I’d like to suggest a permanent Sunday market held in Village Hall’

‘Yeoford seems to me to have become a commuter village where people live increasingly private and insular lives’

‘Yeoford is being spoiled by insensitive planning permission’

‘Yeoford is a lovely village but………….’

‘The impression is that Yeoford as a community lacks cohesion’

‘The possibility of public conveniences at Recreation Ground’

‘The village and its way of life was here before us’

‘Is this all a waste of time as no notice was taken of public opinion before….?’

  3. CONCLUSION AND ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS

The Community Appraisal was designed to give everyone an opportunity to express an opinion on a range of issues concerning Yeoford and district. The 115 households (345 people) who responded represent a response of just under 50%, sufficient to indicate the problems and pressures affecting the community. If you would like further information on the detailed response – this report is, after all, a summary – or you wish to make further comments please contact the Clerk to the Parish Council –

Miss J Burrow Tel. 01363 84268

Thanks are due to the people who generously gave their time to develop, deliver and collect questionnaires. They are:

  • Members of the Appraisal Steering Group

  • Members of the Parish Council for sponsoring the appraisal and giving financial support

  • Members of the Community Council of Devon for their help and guidance

Finally, thanks to everyone who responded to the Appraisal.

May 1999
