Intoduction by Brian Medhurst - Chairman of the Steering Committee
The response to the Yelverton Village Appraisal has been outstanding.
Well over 90% of residents completed the questionnaire back in January, and the Steering Group whole-heartedly thank every one of you for taking the time and trouble to give us your views. This result not only shows the strength of support of Yelverton people for initiatives to improve the facilities and amenities in the village, it gives real authority to the findings of the survey. Thank you too for the mass of useful comments given in the "free-for-all" section at the end of the questionnaire. We are pleased to include as many of these as possible.
The appraisal was sponsored by Buckland Monachorum Council and made possible by the support and assistance of the Community Council of Devon (funded under European Community Objective 5(b)). We have worked extremely well with them, and we wish to record our thanks to these organisations, and particularly Helen Vines, the appraisal officer assigned to our project, for their very willing and professional involvement.
The success of the appraisal was also due to the 60 volunteers who distributed and collected the questionnaires. This was a vital task and we are most grateful to each of them.
Now we can report on the findings. We hope you find them interesting and that they will stimulate further thought and action. If you wish to see a full statistical analysis of the questionnaire please contact me on 853337. A copy of the statistical analysis will also be available in the Doctor's surgery waiting room, local churches, and at the Post Offce.
This report summarises as accurately as we can the views of Yelverton people.
We have included many of the large number of comments that you made, but some topics, such as road safety, attracted so many comments that only a representative sample can be presented. We sincerely hope that no individual feels left out or misrepresented.
You will find at the end of this report a section on the way ahead and the actions proposed in the light of your responses.
Some facts about us
The appraisal survey was delivered to 717 households and individuals in residential homes in the village. We were delighted to receive back replies from 670 representing a response level of 93%. This covered some 1,506 people, including 1,363 aged 11 and over who completed the questionnaire.
The table below shows the age pattern of the 1,506 people who replied, and shows we have roughly 1/3 under 40, 1/3 aged 40-59 and 1/3 aged 60 and over.
