"The Seven Ages of Man" Well, we had nine age groups recorded - here’s how we lined up in mid-1998!
Why are 22 to 59 year olds so uninteresting that they are given only two divisions in these groupings? Perhaps the 4 groups below them in age can suggest some answers! HOUSING 81% of respondents live in privately owned properties and 10% in Council rented property. 50% It was important to try and assess the views of parishioners about new housing. Opinions are firm; a third feel that no new houses should be built and 42% believe restrictions should be placed on sales to benefit local purchasers, and if young people and low income families are specified, the percentage of those supporting restricted sales rises to 75%. "A small amount of ‘affordable’ housing for any of the above, but not more expensive developments The population seems stable: 23 people are in need of alternative accommodation 14 of them in need now. 13 people might need ‘starter homes’ to buy or rent and 7 might seek sheltered housing. "Road infrastructure cannot take more dwellings and there are no jobs locally" "NIMBY" "Any location would spoil the beauty of this lovely parish" An open question in the Appraisal asked ‘if the South Hams Structure Plan made housing development inevitable could you suggest suitable locations for new housing?" Only a quarter of people felt they could comment, and most emphasised that no new housing should be built. 17 locations were suggested - and 8 were outside the Parish! Only 1 person thought new housing would be appropriate in their part of the Parish. It would seem we are not too enthusiastic on this issue!
