In October 1996 a public meeting was held in the Town Hall. People were told that the Town Council was supporting a Community Appraisal to be sent to every household in the form of a questionnaire to help find out what people felt, needed and what they saw was best for the future of South Molten. Everyone from the age of 11 upwards was to be given the opportunity to have their say. From that meeting came many ideas on what questions to ask. Many present agreed to form a Working Party which developed the questionnaire.
In March 1997 the questionnaires were distributed and collected, all by volunteers. Since then we have been analysing all the information collected and this report seeks to give an overall view of all those answers.
It quotes from some of the answers given, it would not be possible to print all of them, but a copy of all results may be viewed at the Information Centre at 1 East Street.
I would like to thank Mike Knight of the Community Council of Devon, for his help and guidance given to the Working Party. The appraisal is supported and financed by South Molton Town Council, the Community Council of Devon, North Devon District Council and Devon County Council.
At the back of the report we have listed certain areas that the Community might like to look into in the next few months and future years. To discuss these and answer questions asked in the appraisal a meeting has been arranged for individuals and representatives of organisations at the Town Hall, South Molton on Wednesday 3 September 1997 at 7.30. Please come along so that this appraisal becomes of use and does not stop here!
