Rewe & District Community Appraisal Report 2000 Need for More Facilities Around 200 people replied to these three questions.
Only about 10% in each case were against, with the remainder having no opinion. Possible Solution: Approach the Parish Council with a view to locating a suitable site. Secure funding (National Lottery Charities Board?) "A playground/park would be great to give the children something to do" "A park would encourage young people to congregate & cause noise & vandalism" "If possible buy the field between Rewe Barton & Green Lane and make into a village green." (More than a dozen people suggested this site for a Green/Park/Recreation)" Doctor’s surgery?" (for Rewe) "Swimming pool" (7 people mentioned this) Need for a Project to Record the Special Features of Rewe Church We asked how often people attend the Church and of the 232 who responded, just over half said never, 17% for specific functions such as Baptisms, Weddings and Funerals, 16% a few times a year, 3% once a month and 11% more than once a month. 40% of those asked felt the Church should be financed by the whole community, 33% thought it should be the regular churchgoers, and the remainder thought the state should finance it. 117 people would like to see the Church used as a venue for concerts. Regarding meetings and other functions, most people had no opinion. "Concerts & meetings should only be of a Christian sort" Information & Communication We asked people where they got their information from regarding events taking place in the village. Our sources were the noticeboards, Forum magazine and word of mouth. The majority said they got their information from the magazine (64%), quite a lot learned through word of mouth (58%) and just under a third got information from the notice boards (30%). Twelve said they got it from other unspecified sources. "Not in receipt of parish magazine – did not know one existed" On being asked about the amount of information available in the village, just over half said they thought it was reasonable, just over 20% said it was poor and 13% said it was good. People were asked how often they read the monthly magazine and over half – 134 -said every month, 28 said less frequently and 37 said never. However, 41 (17.1%) actually said they were unaware of it. Hopefully this can now be remedied. People were asked if they knew what was on offer at various venues throughout the village. This question received a low response rate with the following being the numbers who replied – Yes.
We asked people their opinion on access for those with disabilities to the Village Hall, Social Club, Youth Club and Church. The answer most gave in response was "Don’t know". However, roughly one fifth felt access was either good or reasonable to the Social Club, Youth Club and the Church, but one-third felt access to the Village Hall is poor. "The main problem is that Rewe has no ‘heart’ or centre. Build or set up a village centre" "To be involved in the village social life you need to be a member of church or local clubs/societies. Rather than join such organisations some people may prefer the informal contact which would come from a community shop & recreation park but for either of these to be successful improved traffic calming & pedestrian facilities are needed" [Previous Page][Index][Next Page] [DF&F Main Menu] [Community Profiles Menu] [Community Appraisals Menu] [Top of Page] [Devon C.C.
