ENVIRONMENT Footpaths The questionnaire asked whether the footpaths could be followed easily, and whether footpath maps should be put up. A third of you said that you could follow the footpaths in the village without any difficulty, although a quarter of you disagreed and thought that they were sometimes awkward to follow. Many of you (82%) thought that footpath maps were a good idea, as long as they were of good quality and displayed in an appropriate place within the village. It was also felt that direction signs and arrows on the footpaths themselves should be kept clear at all times. One of the joys of "Life in the Country" should surely be the opportunity to walk and wander in the fields and lanes
Recommendations : The Parish Council should consider the erection of Footpaths Maps, in a durable format, near the footpath entrances. It should also consider placing litter bins in the centres of population.
Impose fines on the guilty dog owners with half going to the informant. Take careless dog owners on a visit to the blind school. Do farmers and ‘new’ villagers need to have a better understanding of each other?
Recommendations : Given the support for a community composting scheme (which can also raise funds for the operating group) the Gardening Club may care to investigate possible sites, and the economics of such a scheme.
Respondents were asked to grade the quality of the domestic water supply, and 362 people gave their views. 23 (6%) said it was ‘excellent’ while 86 (24%) said it was ‘good’ and 139 (38%) thought it ‘acceptable’, 83 (23%) said it was ‘poor’, and 31 (9%) considered it to be ‘very poor’.
Recommendation : The wide spread of views tends to indicate that the quality varies excessively in the parish; this needs examining.[DF&F Main Menu] [Community Profiles Menu] [Community Appraisals Menu] [Top of Page] [Devon C.C.
