"IF THERE WAS A CAFÉ JUST FOR YOUNG PEOPLE IN OKEHAMPTON WOULD YOU USE IT?" 78% (524) of young people from ALL parishes would use a café in Okehampton. This was the biggest response to any one question.
We think the response to this question speaks for itself. Youth Cafés are becoming extremely popular in all areas of the United Kingdom, both in urban and rural districts. Properly developed and managed - with the involvement of young people - they have much to offer the whole community. Recommendation:
"IF THERE WAS A ROLLERBLADING/SKATEBOARDING AREA IN OKEHAMPTON WOULD YOU USE IT?" 40% (266) of the young people questioned would use such an area. Which shows just how popular this specialist pursuit has become. The preferred times to use such an area are - EVENINGS/HOLIDAYTIMES/WEEKENDS. With "normal" daytime hours being the least popular. We know that some villages/communities are already creating areas/facilities for Rollerblading/Skateboarding - Great - Keep up the good work!! Also funding bids have been placed by O.C.R.A., with evidence from this appraisal proving need to enable them to develop a facility suitable for competition as well as recreational use. WE WISH THEM WELL Recommendations:
The majority of young people would have to rely on PARENTS or FRIENDS for lifts. With 247 using public transport if available. 76 can only access Okehampton by using the school bus service. 77 (in older age range) have their own transport. We ALL know of the difficulties with Transport when we live in a rural area, and while young people in the country are used to hoping for lifts from family and friends, this in itself can present a variety of issues/difficulties. Therefore the only figures that can be relied upon as being regular are PUBLIC TRANSPORT and OWN TRANSPORT. Recommendations:
