Northlew Community Appraisal - 1997

Northlew School

The children of Northlew, having designed the front cover of the appraisal, also set their own questions and answered them without help!

The questions are answered by those children who understood and wished to take part.

Road Safety

7 out of 10 thought pavements are needed in Northlew. However 5 out of 9 thought it might spoil the 'traditional' look ofthe village. All the children think people drive too FAST through the village. The majority of the children (nine) who answered the appraisal would like to see lower speed limits in the village, more road signs warning of the school and no parking outside the school.

Play Area

Nearly all ofthe children (nine) would like more play areas i.e. playing field, village square, school field. They would like a wider range of equipment, with areas for Juniors and a separate area for 11 years and upwards. The children would like to be actively involved in developing the play area and selecting equipment.

Dogs

8 out of 9 thought dogs should be kept under better control and that dog walkers should clear up after their dogs.

Activities

The children would like more activities and clubs in the village. A whole range of activities were listed:- football, basketball, skittles and dancing.

Victory Hall

It was suggested that pictures and posters (in frames) would make the Victory Hall more interesting. They would like a carpeted play area for small children.

They thought the hall could be improved by:-

  1. full time cleaner
  2. new kitchen and new floor covering
  3. hot water in the toilets
  4. modernising the hall

Environment

The children think the village square needs brightening up and the Pub should offer garden facilities and sunday dinners. They would like troughs of flowers and more waste bins available. Finally they would like the public toilets improved.
