Introduction

The questionnaire was completed by 348 households (704 respondents aged 11 or over) representing 837 people, a return of 60% of households in the parish. This was a very good response.

Housing

The questions featured around housing needs and there was strong support for starter homes and housing for young people. Housing for local people also featured, together with low income requirements and housing for elderly people. 30 Households indicated that they are in need of alternative accommodation for the whole household.

Employment

It was surprising to see that only 2% of the people who replied were unemployed. 53% of respondents (344) were in employment, 135 of these being self-employed, whilst a quarter were retired. Over half of Moretons work force are in skilled manual, managerial or professional work.

Restrictions to employment included a lack of public transport and a lack of employment opportunities. This indicates the need to promote business within Moretonhampstead itself.

Lack of start-up funding is cited by 48 of the 81 respondents as one of the biggest restrictions to people becoming self employed.
