RESULTS AND RECOMMENDATIONS
INTRODUCTION
May we thank all residents of Milton Damerel and Abbots Bickington who completed the questionnaire. Special thanks go to the committee who arranged the formulation, distribution and collection of the replies.
We have had the statistical analysis back from the Community Council of Devon, and it reveals some interesting facts about life and attitudes in the community.
136 households completed the survey and represented 352 people (a 72% return rate).
308 people completed the questionnaire.

THE PARISH SPEAKS - Housing
The housing stock over the next ten years
62 thought that an increase of 10 dwellings could be accommodated during that period. Whilst 34, 10 and 13 people considered that 20, 30 and 40 dwellings respectively should be allowed.
"A small amount of house building would be acceptable but to young local people only"
Type of accommodation wanted

However, 64 persons (34%) identified council rented property and a further 27 people (14%) identified the privately rented market.

However 85 people (30%) considered no housing was needed.
"With an ageing population a retirement home or ‘Abbeyfield’ type of housing would be a long term asset to the parish"
Recommendation:
Send to Torridge District Council for consideration.
THE PARISH SPEAKS - Adult Education
Adult/evening class attendance
Interest in attending evening classes in Milton Damerel
Interest in vocational/adult training opportunities
Outside of Milton Damerel, Holsworthy was identified as the most popular destination for training.
"Computer classes would be a good idea"
"Keep Fit please"
"How about line dancing"
Recommendation:
To raise this issue at future Village Appraisal Meeting, and inform local providers of the demand.
