Mary Tavy Community Appraisal - The Results

FOREWORD BY
D. WHITE, CHAIRMAN OF THE STEERING GROUP

It seems a long time ago since I took over from the original Chairman to this now final moment when we will see the conclusion of the village appraisal. I well remember the meeting in the Coronation Hall which was addressed by Hannah Reynolds which started this task with so much enthusiasm but has left us with a very small band of volunteers who have stuck to the task through all adversities. To them go my personal thanks for their unwilting support and I trust the thanks of the people of Mary Tavy who will, hopefully, benefit from these results.

I would also like to thank Helen Vines and latterly Sue Murphy of the Community Council of Devon for their help in keeping us going and giving their help and support. Also the Parish Council who, although not wishing to become directly involved, part-funded the project together with Dartmoor National Park and Devon County Council.

Lastly I would like to thank all those who took the time to fill in the questionnaire and all the helpers who distributed and collected them, and thanks to Ann and Terry Dredge at the Post Office for lending their support as they always do.

fFor this appraisal to mean anything it is up to all of us to continue this work, carrying it forward to a satisfactory conclusion and beyond. Please give support to local village initiatives, attend Parish Council meetings - please get involved to make this a much happier and healthier place to grow up and live in. I am sure there is a welath of talent in this village, both old and young. It can be seen in the youth club which is thriving and has provided the young with much needed entertainment and a new playground, thanks to a group of dedicated people who wanted to get involved.

Traffic calming scheme produced results because people cared about it and got the local councillor Pam Scannell involved. You see, things can be achieved by persisting and by being part of the process, so please do not be negative; use your talents and make Mary Tavy a decent place to live, in the new Millennium.
