Milton Abbot Village Appraisal Report 1998 VILLAGE ENVIRONMENT
Village enhancement 119 villagers (89% of those who filled in the questionnaire) felt the village could be made more visually attractive and their suggestions are summarised below.
‘The street lighting is hideous and much too bright’ ‘Maintain garages’ ‘Prune hedges and weed gutters’ ‘The church gate treated for woodworm and decorated with flower baskets’ Benches Whilst 72 people (57% of those expressing an opinion) would like more benches about the village, 18 (14%) said no, and 37 people (29%) had no view on the matter at all. ‘Churchyard and Green’ ‘Bench by the church, around church and along towards school’ ‘On the way to school, past the telephone box’ ‘Playground by school’ Litter The village is fairly evenly split on whether Milton Abbot has a litter problem or not - 38% (46 people) said yes, and 48% (59 people) said no, which suggests there might be a problem in one part of the village in particular. Those who discern a problem might like to identify the particular area to the Parish Council, and suggest remedies. Dogs 84% of respondents (108 people) would like to see dogs banned from the Green and the Churchyard (9 people said 'No', and 12 had no opinion). This does not really appear to be a problem at present as only 2 out of 48 people walk their dogs in the Green and Churchyard - most people use the fields and footpaths. 45 people (66%) would use a 'poop scoop' facility. WALKING DOGS ‘Walk dogs on main road’ ‘Very rarely along Higher Edgecumbe Lane’ ‘Most of the time taken out of village’ ‘Side roads out of village’ ‘Tavistock Meadows and Dartmoor’ LITTER/DOGS ‘Litter bins and dog poo bins’ ‘More litter bins needed’ ‘No worse than anywhere else’ ‘Take their own dog poo home with them and put it in their own rubbish bin’ ‘Dogs fouling in Piggy Lane and on the pavement to school’ 'Clean up Milton Abbot Day 'Enough people offered their services for a Clean Up Milton Day to be a reality - 58 residents promising to take part once or twice a year. ‘Council to supply wheelie bins, this would stop cats etc. ripping the plastic bags’ [Previous Page][Index][Next Page] [DF&F Main Menu] [Community Profiles Menu] [Community Appraisals Menu] [Top of Page] [Devon C.C.
