INTRODUCTION
The civil parish of Lynton and Lynmouth includes Lynbridge and Barbrook as well as surrounding
hamlets. Situated where Exmoor meets the sea this is an area of outstanding natural beauty where
flora and fauna flourish in abundance and which is occupied by caring and friendly people.
POPULATION
472 households completed the questionnaire, out of 533 delivered, representing 1186 individuals of whom 965 completed the questionnaire (some being too young to do so). Of these, 113 (9% of
respondents) live alone in 24% of the housing stock. The number living alone appears to be a
very high level and for some this may indicate the need for support, or the need for
opportunities for individuals to meet in the community.
Only 15% of the population were born here.
It often appears that the residents Lynbridge, Barbrook and outer districts have a lower profile of consideration but their combined population exceeds that of Lynmouth.
AGE DISTRIBUTION
The chart shows that there are 575 males and 611 females in the households that responded. The only imbalances within age ranges appear to be 11 to 16 years where there are double the number of males, 17 to 21 years with double the number of females and 75+ where females outnumber males 2 to 1. There are 452 residents under 40 years. This may have implications for future years in employment, social support, healthcare and housing.
