Village Appraisal Results

General Information About Lydford Residents

The Appraisal Questionnaire was delivered to 130 households in and around Lydford. We were delighted to receive back 119 replies representing 266 people (a 91.5% response).

Sex of respondents: Male 101 (44%), Female 130 (56%). 10 were uncertain of or did not wish to declare their sexuality.

Housing Development

3 needed alternative accommodation now, 11 need it within the next 3 years and 10 in the next 4-10 years. All types of accommodation were wanted but most required starter homes.

Local Housing Styles
161 respondents (85%) would like to see more strict adherence to the use of local styles and materials. 29 people (15%) did not and 36 had no opinion.

Housing Needs
The expressed need is housing for Local People and Young People. From the 328 expressed opinions: 262 saw a need for some housing, 66 did not see a need for any more housing and 24 had no opinion/don't know.

Traffic and Transportation

Cars and parking
The village has 177 cars and 8 motor bikes, for 119 households.

For the 100 households which stated where vehicles were parked most vehicles (94%) were parked in a garage or off the road.

Flashing warning lights
114 people (61%) responded infavour of the installation of flashing warning lights, near the school, 73 people (39%) were opposed. 35 people had no opinion.
The Appraisal Committee will ask the Parish Council to progress this matter.

Footpaths
During the appraisal compilation process existing footpaths were upgraded and a new footpath erected outside the school. 158 people (79%) were in favour, 42 people (21%) were opposed with 21 people expressing no opinion.

Street lighting
The majority of responses were against the installation of street lights, 150 (70%), with 63 (30%) in favour, 14 people had no opinion.
No further action will be taken on this subject.

Public transport
The majority of parishoners were in favour of the construction of a new bus shelter. 106 (64%) for, 59 (36%) against and 59 had no opinion. The Appraisal Committee will ask the Parish Council to progress this matter.

Bus timings
116 people (51%) are aware, 111 people (49%) are not.
