Foreword
After a protracted struggle, a superb primary school has been built in Landkey. A school of
which we are rightly proud.
The Victorian stone built school building remains and has reverted to Church of England
ownership. The Landkey and Swimbridge Newland Community Appraisal was set up to discover the view
of the community on the future of the former primary school. The task of conducting such a survey
was an onerous one - many dedicated people volunteered to deliver and collect questionnaires. I
would like to thank most sincerely all of those volunteers for their hard work. I would also like
to thank every single person who took the time and trouble to complete the survey. 349 households
completed the forms, 93.6% of respondents stated that the old school should be used to benefit
the community. It is very pleasing to see the community respond in such a way. Let us all work
towards the establishment of this lovely old building as a centre for educational and leisure
use.

Introduction
In August last year the views of the people of Landkey and Swimbridge Newland were sought on a
number of questions. These were mainly concerned in finding out the level of support that might
be expected in aquiring the old primary school building in Landkey Town for future use as a
community centre.
641 forms were delivered and 349 households completed and returned the questionaire. An excellent
response and one which can be accepted as statistically valid. The replies represented 856 people
of which 721 were in the 11+ category and therefore had the opportunity to respond to the
questions.
